Punjab Kings (PBKS) became the third side to fail in their bid to reach the IPL 2025 top spot. Delhi Capitals ended their season with a six-wicket win at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. This loss now means that Gujarat Titans stay top of the table with 18 points from 13 games, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru and PBKS have 17 points from 13 matches. Mumbai Indians are currently fourth with 16 points with a game to spare.
Delhi Capitals were set a target of 207 runs to win and got off to a great start with KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis finally coming good as a pair. The pair added 55 runs for the first wicket in just 33 balls. Rahul scored 35 runs from just 21 balls, with his innings including six boundaries and a solitary six.
Faf du Plessis was out after scoring 23 off just 15 balls with two fours and a six. The former South African skipper fell while attempting a cut shot caught by Priyansh Arya off Harpreet Brar. Debutant Sediqullah Atal hit two sixes and survived a few chances before he was dismissed for 22 runs.
Sameer Rizvi’s unbeaten fifty helps DC register close win
Karun Nair began his innings with a six and played a brilliant knock of 44 runs. The 33-year-old kept the scoreboard ticking, as at one stage PBKS had failed to bowl a dot delivery for 19 balls. Both batters ran well between the wickets; Karun Nair hit Praveen Dubey for three successive fours in the 11th over.
Harpreet Brar got the breakthrough when Karun Nair lost his leg stump while attempting a sweep. Nair scored 44 off 27 balls with five boundaries and two sixes. Young batter Sameer Rizvi got his first fifty in the IPL and he hit the winning runs for a six and celebrated with Tristan Stubbs.
