In what seems to be a major action by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the IPL game between PBKS and DC in Dharamsala was called amidst a cross-border tension between India and Pakistan. However, the officials communicated that the reason behind calling off the game was the floodlight failure.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has taken a charge in the same line of events, deciding to arrange a special train to evacuate the PBKS and DC players, alongside the support staff and broadcast crew from Dharamsala.
“The match couldn't have continued tonight because of the situation” – Rajiv Shukla
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla clarified the board’s stance and the actions to be taken further to ensure the safety and security of all the players and officials, alongside the broadcast crew, who were involved in conducting the called-off PBKS vs DC game in Dharamsala.
“We are organising a special train from close to Dharamshala to bring everybody home safely. As of now, the match has been called off and the stadium has been evacuated. We will take a call on the tournament's future depending on the situation tomorrow. As of now, players' safety is utmost importance. The match couldn't have continued tonight because of the situation. It wasn't safe,” Rajeev Shukla was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
The reports also understand that the players of both PBKS and DC have safely reached their respective hotels. Now, the further movement of the players or any other member related to this match will depend on the official orders from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In the same line of events, the BCCI had already shifted Punjab Kings’ next Dharamsala game in IPL 2025 to Ahmedabad. The match was scheduled to be played against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, May 11, due to the security concerns and the rising tension at the borders between India and Pakistan.
Amidst all this, the reports also suggest that the continuation of the ongoing IPL 2025 might also be in a conundrum, considering the security concerns.
