The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was suspended due to the conflict between India and Pakistan. The last match played in the tournament was between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which was stopped after 10.1 overs of play. With the hostilities coming to a halt on Saturday, there is a hope that the IPL could restart soon. Noted newspaper Hindustan Times spoke to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia about a potential restart.

According to the BCCI secretary, the IPL’s resumption rests in the government’s hands. Speaking to the newspaper, Saikia said, “The BCCI suspended the IPL on Friday for a period of seven days, and today, we are on the third day with five more days left. The BCCI is closely monitoring the evolving situation and developments, and will take a call on IPL resumption after consulting all stakeholders of IPL and the concerned Government authorities.”

It is to be noted that once the league resumes, the game between Punjab and Delhi will be replayed. Indian Express on Sunday carried a report stating that the final of the IPL 2025 season could be played on 30th May instead of May 25, which was the previous date. It was also reported that the new schedule of IPL 2025 could be made public by Sunday night.

Speaking to the Indian Express, one unnamed BCCI source said, “As the IPL was suspended for a week, there is a possibility of the IPL final now being played on May 30 instead of May 25 with limited venues. The schedule will be sent to all IPL by tonight.”

IPL 2025 final few fixtures to see more double headers

When the league was suspended, there were a handful of league games left along with the playoffs and the final. With international cricket on the horizon, there are reports that many of the games in IPL 2025 could be double headers in a bid to complete the tournament.

Mr Devajit Saikia, during his chat with Hindustan Times, also said that the board will start having a word with the concerned stakeholders. “In the next days, we will begin consultations with the franchises, broadcasters, sponsors and the state associations slated to host the remaining matches before crystallising a decision on the league's resumption.”

BCCI secretary also added, “Given the importance of IPL at this juncture, it will also be prudent and necessary to take the nod of the Government of India before finalising the time for its restart. BCCI will duly announce the date of IPL restart once the whole process is over in due course of time."
