In what seemed to be the most-awaited piece of news for the Indian cricket fans, the Board of Control for Cricket in India have announced May 17 as the date of the tournament’s resumption. The tournament will resume with the first game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), on May 17, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The final of the tournament will now be played on January 3 after the announcement of the updated schedule from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Notably, the tournament was suspended by the Indian cricket board for one week due to the escalating cross-border conflicts between India and Pakistan.

BCCI extends gratitude to Indian Armed Forces for cricket’s ‘safe return’

BCCI and IPL released an official press release on Monday, just a few hours ago, to announce the resumption of the tournament across 6 venues in India. The playoffs will commence with the first qualifier on May 29, followed by the Eliminator on May 30, and the second qualifier on June 1.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pleased to announce the resumption of the TATA IPL 2025. After extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders, the Board has decided to proceed with the remainder of the season,” said BCCI in the official statement.

“A total of 17 matches will be played across 6 venues, starting May 17, 2025, and culminating in the final on June 3, 2025. The revised schedule includes two double-headers, which will be played on two Sundays,” the statement added further.

Furthermore, the Board of Control for Cricket in India lauded the Indian armed forces and their major contribution in enabling the ‘return of cricket’.

“The BCCI takes this opportunity to once again salute the bravery and resilience of India’s armed forces, whose efforts have enabled the safe return of cricket. The Board reaffirms its commitment to the national interest while ensuring the successful completion of the league,” the official statement concluded.
