KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 93 off 53 balls to help Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six wickets. This win took DC to the top of the table as KL Rahul was seen celebrating in a very uncharacteristic way. At the end of the game, the cricketer's wife, Athiya Shetty, took to her Instagram handle and posted a story with KL Rahul lifting the bat after the game and wrote, “This guy! Uff”
Delhi Capitals were struggling at one stage as they were reduced to 58 for four in the ninth over. Rahul and Tristan Stubbs added 111 runs for the fifth wicket as the pair took their team to an easy win with 13 balls to spare. Rahul had scored a match-winning 77 in the last game versus Chennai and continued his blistering form with the bat.
The 32-year-old hit seven crisp boundaries and six huge sixes in his knock. Josh Hazlewood’s over was the key point in the game as Rahul hit the Aussie pacer for three fours and a six just as there was a drizzle starting to fall. After the brutal assault, the two DC batters made short work of RCB bowlers to take home the win.
Once the game ended, KL Rahul was seen celebrating in an animated fashion by thumping his chest. When asked the reason behind this at the end of the game after Rahul was given the man of the match award, the DC batter said, “This is my ground; this is my home. I know this better than anybody else. Enjoyed playing here.”
The 32-year-old also added, “It was a slightly tricky wicket. What helped me was being behind the stumps for 20 overs, just watching how it played. From wicketkeeping I figured that the ball sat in the wicket a little bit but it was consistent throughout. Just wanted to get off to a good start, be aggressive initially and assess it from there. If I was trying to hit a big six, I knew what pockets to target. Wicketkeeping gave me a feeler for how the other batters played and where were they dismissed.”
DC skipper Axar Patel was happy after the win and said, “The way the team is playing, everyone is confident and feels good to win four out of four. They like facing pacers, so I felt using spin early was a good option. The ball was stopping and there was some bounce as well, so I felt it was hard to hit spinners in the powerplay. The 19th over by me was perhaps a mistake tactically. But it's okay since we have won.”
