Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Delhi Capitals by 47 runs on Sunday. This win has given a huge new hope to Faf Du Plessis and his team to make it to the top four spots in the table and also possibly qualify for the playoffs. With just one week left to go in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 the rush for the playoffs is heating up.

It was a one-sided contest as the RCB bowlers and fielders didn’t let the Capitals off the hook. Rajat Patidar with a knock of 52 was instrumental in bringing RCB back into the game and helping them reach 187. Contributions from Will Jacks and Cameron Green ensured the home team finished their innings on a high.

David Warner failed to fire on his return to the team, while Abhishek Porel was out due to a rush of blood. Jake Fraser-McGurk who had gotten off to a good start was run-out in unfortunate circumstances. Axar Patel tried to fight his way through with the bat but the target was just beyond reach as Delhi Capitals slipped to 6th in the IPL 2024 table.

Possible scenarios for Royal Challengers Bengaluru to make it to the playoffs

Scenario 1 – Hope Delhi Capitals and LSG lose their last games

Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants play each other on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will hope that Delhi Capitals will lose to LSG on Tuesday and also LSG lose to Mumbai Indians on Friday. RCB will then have to beat Chennai Super Kings and can make it to the top 4 due to a better run rate.

Scenario 2- Hope Sunrisers Hyderabad lose both their games

The biggest roadblock for RCB is the team in orange under the captaincy of Pat Cummins. The IPL 2016 winners will take on Gujarat Titans at home and follow it up with a game against Punjab Kings. The ideal scenario for RCB to make it to the playoffs is if SRH lose both their games and RCB win against CSK on Saturday with a better run rate to pip SRH and get to the 4th spot in the table.

Scenario 3 – SRH wins both matches, RCB beats CSK and knocks them out

The final scenario is even more straightforward, all the RCB has to do is turn up and beat Chennai Super Kings in front of their home fans with a decent margin. Even if SRH win both their games, the win over CSK will give RCB the chance to qualify for the playoffs as the 4th team and also knock out the defending champions.
