Sunrisers Hyderabad won their second game of IPL 2024 by beating Chennai Super Kings on Friday. The margin of win was by six wickets with 1.5 overs left to play in the game. Ruturaj Gaikwad and his side have now lost two games in a row after their shock loss to Delhi Capitals.
Chennai Super Kings were asked to bat first after SRH skipper Pat Cummins called the toss correctly. The defending champions managed to score 165 runs for the loss of 5 wickets from their 20 overs. Vital contributions from Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ajinkya Rahane helped CSK reach the total.
Abhishek Sharma scored 37 runs from just 12 balls to give the home team a fine start. Aiden Markram then scored a memorable half-century to make sure that SRH were well on course for a win. Despite losing wickets in the middle overs the pair of Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen kept their cool to ensure all two points in SRH’s kitty.
Here are the player ratings for Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 18th match of IPL 2024 against Chennai Super Kings:
11. Mayank Markande – 2/10
Hyderabad spinner Mayank Markande hasn’t been able to find his groove with the ball this season of IPL. The 26-year-old went wicketless yet again and conceded 21 runs from his 2 overs with the ball.
10. T Natarajan – 3/10
Left-arm pacer T Natarajan conceded 39 runs from his four overs on his return to the SRH team against CSK. The 33-year-old picked the wicket of Daryl Mitchell in the final over of the CSK innings and also bowled well to former skipper MS Dhoni.
9. Jaydev Unadkat – 3/10
Yet another veteran left-arm pacer who did reasonably well on Friday was Jaydev Unadkat. The man from Saurashtra got the key wicket of Ajinkya Rahane for 35 just when the veteran CSK batter was looking good for a big score.
8. Shahbaz Ahmed – 3/10
29-year-old Shahbaz Ahmed was given just one over with the ball where he conceded 11 runs. The left-arm spinner though did the necessary damage when he got the big wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad for 26. Shahbaz Ahmed then scored a crucial 18 runs to help SRH move closer to the required total.
7. Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 4/10
34-year-old seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar finally found his rhythm to record his best figures of IPL 2024. The right-arm seamer got the wicket of Rachin Ravindra and bowled brilliantly at the death to end with figures of 1/28 from 4 overs.
6. Pat Cummins – 5/10
Everything that Pat Cummins touched today turned to gold. Right from winning the toss to his aggressive captaincy and his splendid bowling. The Aussie skipper bowled four overs and picked the key wicket of Shivam Dube while conceding 29 runs.
5. Heinrich Klaasen – 5/10
A quiet game in comparison to the first three games, Heinrich Klaasen was coolness personified behind the stumps. His calm approach with the bat helped SRH at a time when the home side had lost a few quick wickets.
4. Nitish Reddy – 6/10
Young Nitish Reddy showed his flamboyance with his crucial knock of 14 runs from 8 balls. After losing Aiden Markram and Shahbaz Ahmed, SRH needed someone to stay with Klaasen and finish the game. Nitish Reddy was the guy as he hit a huge six off Deepak Chahar to give SRH the win.
3. Travis Head – 7/10
Australian opener Travis Head continued on his merry form with the bat with yet another substantial contribution. The 30-year-old scored 31 runs off 24 balls to help Hyderabad steal the march with a huge score in the powerplay overs.
2. Aiden Markram – 8/10
It needed the cool and composed former SRH skipper Aiden Markram to lead the charge with the bat. The 29-year-old scored his first fifty of IPL 2024 off 36 balls with four boundaries and a six to help SRH maintain their control over CSK.
1. Abhishek Sharma – 9/10
Young Abhishek Sharma has been turning a lot of heads with the bat during the IPL 2024 season. The 23-year-old cut CSK bowlers into half and took a special liking to Mukesh Choudhary. The left-arm seamer was hit for 27 runs in his only over as SRH raced to a huge start in the first 3 overs. Abhishek Sharma was out for 37 from just a dozen balls with four sixes and three fours in his knock.
