It was a happy day for the fans of the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Hardik Pandya and his side won their first game of the IPL 2024 season by beating Delhi Capitals. The margin of win was 29 runs as MI climbed to 8th spot in the IPL 2024 table.

Put into bat first, Mumbai Indians scored 234 runs from their 20 overs. Rohit Sharma (49) and Ishan Kishan (42) began well for the home team. Delhi Capitals bowlers came to the contest thanks to Axar Patel picking two wickets. It was Tim David and Romario Shepherd who gave the finishing touches with a brutal assault with the bat.

Delhi Capitals began their chase by losing David Warner for 10 runs. Prithvi Shaw scored his first fifty of the season before Jasprit Bumrah went through his defence to dislodge his leg stump. Tristan Stubbs tried his best as he scored his 50 in 19 balls while Gerald Coetzee’s four wickets swung the game towards MI.

11. Suryakumar Yadav and Piyush Chawla -1/10

Making his first foray with the bat this season, Suryakumar Yadav was out for a second ball duck. The bad form of Piyush Chawla continued as he was slammed for 32 runs from 2 overs.

10. Akash Madhwal – 1/10

30-year-old medium pacer Akash Madhwal was hit for 45 runs from four overs to endure a terrible outing with the ball. After picking three wickets against RR in the last game, it was a bad day with the ball for the MI pacer.

9. Mohammad Nabi – 2/10

The veteran Afghanistan star made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians and didn’t get to bat. With the ball, the 39-year-old bowled two overs and went for 17 runsalso misfielded to give an easy boundary.

8. Tilak Varma -3/10

For the first time in this season of IPL, the blazing blade of Tilak Varma went quiet. The 22-year-old was out for 6 runs from 5 balls in a bid to keep the score ticking for MI. Tilak Varma though did some amazing work in the field to make the difference.

7. Hardik Pandya – 4/10

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya scored 39 runs from 33 balls to help steady the ship. With the home team going at a good rate, it was perhaps time for Pandya to break loose. It didn’t happen though as the runs seemed to come slow from the bat for the MI skipper.

6. Ishan Kishan – 5/10

It would surprise many that despite scoring 42 why Ishan Kishan finds himself at number 6. The young wicketkeeper and batter played well. Just because he was overshadowed by others meant he had to be slotted at this number.

5. Tim David – 5/10

The Australian star has been at his best in the death overs for Mumbai Indians with the bat. Tim David scored an unbeaten 45 runs from 21 balls with 2 fours and 4 huge sixes to help MI reach 234 runs.

4. Gerald Coetzee – 6/10

It seems that South African pacer Gerald Coetzee finally found his moment under the sun in IPL. The right-arm fast bowler picked 4/34 from four overs including three wickets in the final over.

3. Rohit Sharma – 7/10

Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma came out with an aggressive intent as he went after the Delhi Capitals bowlers. The 36-year-old played his usual crisp shots before gifting his wicket away for 49.

2. Romario Shepherd – 8/10

West Indian all-rounder Romario Shepherd showed how devastating he can be with the bat. The 29-year-old slammed Anrich Nortje for 32 runs in the 20th over to end with 39 not out from 10 balls. He would want to do well with the ball though as he was carted for 54 runs from 4 overs with the wicket of David Warner.

1. Jasprit Bumrah -9/10

It was a special day for Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah as he became the second MI bowler to pick 150 IPL wickets. The 30-year-old first dismissed Shaw with a Yorker for 66 before dismissing Abhishek Porel for 41.
