Mumbai Indians won their second game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season by 7 wickets on Thursday night. The win came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru whom they hammered to end the game inside 16 overs and 7 wickets left in the bank. 

Batting first RCB scored 196/8 from their 20 overs with Faf Du Plessis top-scoring with 61 runs. Rajat Patidar scored his half-century from just 25 balls while Dinesh Karthik was not out on 53 runs. 

Mumbai Indians began slow as only nine runs were scored from the first two overs. What followed was a brutal battering of the RCB bowlers by the Mumbai Indians batters. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav showed no mercy as they inflicted more pain to RCB and their already woeful season.

5. Rajat Patidar – 50 runs off 26 balls 

Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally saw Rajat Patidar come to form with an amazing half-century. The 30-year-old has been struggling for runs in recent times but the batting-friendly wicket in Mumbai finally saw Patidar come good. The RCB batter went after the MI bowlers and got to his half-century with a couple of sixes to signal his return to form. 

4. Dinesh Karthik – 53* runs off 23 balls

In what could be last season, Dinesh Karthik has been rediscovering his form with the bat. The 38-year-old took Akash Madhwal to the cleaners including four reverse scoops in the 16th over which went to the boundaries. 

3. Ishan Kishan – 69 runs off 34 balls  

Mumbai Indians were scoring at 4.5 runs per over in the first two overs before Ishan Kishan cut loose. The 25-year-old unleashed a vicious assault on the RCB bowlers as the Mumbai Indians got to the century mark inside the 10th over. 

2. Suryakumar Yadav – 52 runs off 19 balls

Once Ishan Kishan fell there was a huge cheer that went around the stadium. Suryakumar Yadav who was playing as the impact player came out and started to play his patented shots. The 33-year-old took just 17 balls to reach his fifty with the help of five fours and 3 huge sixes. 

1. Jasprit Bumrah – 5/21 from four overs 

Mumbai Indians have to thank Jasprit Bumrah for ensuring that RCB didn’t score above 200. The 30-year-old began by dismissing Virat Kohli for 3 before coming back into the attack caused mayhem. The wickets of Faf Du Plessis and Mahipal Lomror gave MI the much-needed wickets that they were craving. With the wickets of Saurav Chauhan and Vijaykumar Vyshak, the 30-year-old got his second IPL fifer.
