The 60th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 saw a delayed start due to rains. Once the game was deemed fit to begin, Hardik Pandya decided to bowl first after winning the toss. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 157 from the stipulated 16 overs, with Venkatesh Iyer top-scoring with 42. Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana, and Andre Russell chipped in with decent scores for the home team.

Needing 158 to win, Ishan Kishan yet again got a good start before he was out for 40. Rohit Sharma struggled to get going as he scored just 19 balls before falling to Varun Chakravarthy. With some good bowling, Kolkata Knight Riders were able to beat the Mumbai Indians for the second time this season and become the first team to make it to the playoffs of IPL 2024.

Here are the top 5 performances from the match

5. Ishan Kishan – 40 runs from 22 balls

346

For the first time in the last few matches, Ishan Kishan was at his aggressive best with the bat. The 25-year-old began well as he played some attractive shots, which also included a reverse sweep against Sunil Narine. Ishan Kishan was looking dangerous and was on course to get to his half-century before he holed out to Rinku Singh to give Sunil Narine his first wicket of the day.

4. Nitish Rana – 33 runs from 23 balls

347

The veteran left-handed batter was making his return to the side after being injured for most of the season. It seemed like Nitish Rana hadn’t lost his touch as he scored a quick 33 runs with the help of four boundaries and a huge six to help KKR post a decent total on the board. His innings were ended when Tilak Varma pulled off a great run-out to catch Nitish Rana short of his crease.

3. Tilak Varma – 32 runs from 17 balls

348

In what has been a terrible season for the Mumbai Indians, only Tilak Varma has stood up with the bat. The young batter tried his best with the bat as he waged a lone battle and scored 32 runs with 5 fours and a six before he was dismissed by Harshit Rana in the last over.

2. Venkatesh Iyer – 42 runs 21 balls

349

With 3 half-centuries and a century, Mumbai Indians are the favourite team for Venkatesh Iyer. The left-handed batter was in a punishing mood yet again as he smashed the MI bowlers with his swashbuckling batting. The very first ball bowled by Piyush Chawla saw Iyer coming down the track and giving Suryakumar Yadav a simple catch to end his innings.

1. Varun Chakravarthy – 1/17 from 4 overs

351

Veteran spinner Varun Chakravarthy was at his best with the ball as he broke the momentum of Mumbai Indians with the bat. The 33-year-old first dismissed Rohit Sharma for 19 before getting the Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya for 2. The spell was important considering that the Mumbai Indians batters were doing everything to chase down the huge total on the board.
