After losing the 7th match of the season, Punjab Kings (PBKS) are almost out of the tournament. With the loss against CSK in the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, PBKS's performance has dripped down drastically. They had won two brilliant matches against KKR and CSK in the last two encounters; however, they failed to channel the momentum in this match.
PBKS' performance in this year's IPL has been below par as they could manage to win just four games out of 11. Most of their players haven't stood up yet, so the team collapsed during important games. Hence, they are almost out of the playoff race.
Let's discuss the three reasons why Punjab Kings are almost out of the playoff race:
1. LSG-CSK-SRH in fray for 3rd-4th spot
With the three teams, LSG, CSK, and SRH fighting for the 3rd and 4th spots, PBKS's chances have decreased drastically since they have won four matches out of 11 games. Even if they manage to win the rest of their matches, their dream to qualify for the playoffs might take a back seat, considering the other teams' points.
2. RR-KKR almost there
RR and KKR are at the top of the points table with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Both teams are quite sorted, and it seems like nobody can replace them at the top. With this, PBKS's chances go down more as two spots are already taken, and the fight will be between the last two spots.
3. Three tough encounters left for PBKS
The main issue with PBKS is their last three matches with SRH, RR, and RCB. These are some of the strongest teams of this season, and defeating them will be a tough job for the PBKS team. While RR is leading the points table, SRH already has 12 points, so PBKS will have difficulty playing against these teams.
