The Indian cricket team has recently won the 2025 Champions Trophy after beating New Zealand in the finals. Now, the big assignment will be the defence of the T20 World Cup as India and Sri Lanka host the event in early 2026. After that, all eyes will be on the ODI World Cup in 2027, which is to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

The Men in Blue, like the rest of the world, don’t usually get to play too much ODI cricket. The World Test Championship cycle and T20I cricket have been given more credence. However, there is good news for Indian cricket fans, as the Men in Blue will play a total of 27 ODI matches.

Right from August 2025 to December 2026, Team India will play nine ODI series. More matches are expected to be added in 2027 as the team prepares for the massive event. In 2023, India were the runners-up in the ODI World Cup, losing to Australia in the finals. With 2027 set to the swansong for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, fans will hope the iconic duo can head out on a high by winning the title.

Home and away challenges for Indian cricket team in ODI format

Rohit Sharma and his men will play their first home ODI series in late 2025, where they host South Africa. In 2026, New Zealand will twice tour India and play three ODI games each time. The first series will be held in January 2026 and the second series will be held in October to November.

Afghanistan will get to play India in their first bilateral series in June 2026, after which the West Indies and Sri Lanka will tour India. There are a total of six home ODI series for India where the Men in Blue will play 18 matches.
Sterner tests await India when they tour away from home, where the two-time ODI World Cup winners play three series.

The first challenge will be away to Bangladesh in August 2025, followed by a short tour of Australia in October and November later this year. There is just one away series in 2026 as India travel to England for a white ball series, which also includes three ODI matches.
