Rohit Sharma was in the news recently when his images with a supposed big belly were shared on social media. The images were captured during India’s only warm-up match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Bangladesh which took place on Saturday.

As soon as the images came out, many Indian fans began calling out the 37-year-old for his apparent ‘lack of fitness’. Many eagle-eyed social media fans though were quick to post the real images of Rohit while he leading the team on the field.

The Indian fans were soon to point out that there was some mischief behind the morphed image of the national skipper. Social media users soon directed their ire towards the Pakistanis and called it a shameful and deplorable act.

Opening spot conundrum for Team India

Yashasvi Jaiswal missed the practice match against Bangladesh prompting debate about the likely opening combination for the T20 World Cup game against Ireland. According to former India star Irfan Pathan, the team management must stick with the young batter at the top of the order.

Speaking to Star Sports India, Irfan Pathan said “With the selected team, there are two combinations. In one combination, you can play six bowlers, including Axar Patel to deepen the batting. In the other combination, you can play with 4 front line bowlers and expect Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya to bowl”

The 39-year-old also said “Another option for Team India is a young player who bowls in the nets but hasn’t bowled in matches, Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shivam Dube has also mentioned during the IPL that he has been regularly bowling in the nets, preparing to bowl one or two overs during the World Cup”

Meanwhile, former Australian star Matthew Hayden has made it clear that he doesn’t want to see Rohit Sharma open the batting. According to the former opening batter, Virat Kohli will be his choice as an opener with Rohit Sharma batting at number four.

During his chat with ESPN CRICINFO, Hayden said “You have to have a left-right combination. You can’t have five right-handers in a row. Australia would just say hello to Zampa. Kohli has to open or he does not play in my team. He is in the absolute red-hot form”

Rounding off the chat the former Aussie legend said “Rohit is a versatile player and does not shy away from batting away in that middle order. He has a successful record in T20I cricket batting at No. 4 and he can lead the batting group from the early middle order”
