Chennai is set to hos the India and Bangladesh first Test match of the 2-match Test series starting on Thursday. Cricket fans will be happy that the wait is finally over and they can finally see their favorite stars back in action. The Indian side will be wary of the threat posed by the visiting side who have just defeated Pakistan in their own backyard.

The series will also witness Virat Kohli play Test cricket after 8 months. The 35-year-old has missed the entire five-match series against England earlier this year. Kohli’s only game in the longest format came during the Cape Town against South Africa in January.

As with any other series there are several records that are up for grabs. Some of the Indian team members are the on the cusp of creating something special with the bat and ball.

Here is the top 4 milestones India could achieve during the Test series against Bangladesh:

4- Virat Kohli on the verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record

1426

There are very few records in cricket that Sachin Tendulkar doesn’t hold. The Indian legend is set to lose his record of being the fastest to score 27,000 runs in cricket. The former Indian star had reached the mark after having played 623 innings. Virat Kohli has so far played 591 innings across international cricket. The former Indian cricket captain has so far scored 26,942 runs and just needs 58 runs to reach the magic mark.

3- Indian Cricket team on cusp of rare record

1427

Ever since India made their Test debut on 25th of June 1932, the national side has gone on to play 579 Test matches. So far the team has won 178 matches and lost as many games with 222 drawn matches. India are the only other country apart from West Indies to have taken part in a tied Test that came against Australia in 1986.

In the course of India winning the Test in Chennai, it will be the first time the national team will have more Test wins than their loss record. Before the England series, India had played 575 games and had won 174 matches, lost 176, drawn 222 and tied 1. The loss in Hyderabad was their 178th. The next four matches produced wins for India to take their win tally to 178.

2- Ravindra Jadeja set to join elite list

1428

India and Chennai Super Kings' star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is on the cusp of a rare record. The 35-year-old needs just 6 wickets to become the first Indian left-arm spinner to record 300 Test wickets. Not just this, Jadeja will also join R. Ashwin and Kapil Dev as the only star to score 3000 Test runs and pick 300 test wickets. Ravindra Jadeja has so far played 72 Tests and scored 3036 runs with 4 centuries and 20 fifties with an average of 36.

1- Rohit Sharma set to eclipse Virender Sehwag’s record

1429

Indian cricket skipper Rohit Sharma has hit 84 sixes in Test cricket in 59 matches he has played. Virender Sehwag holds the record for the most sixes by an Indian cricketer in the longest format of the game. The former Indian opener has hit a total of 90 sixes which excludes the 1 he hit for the World XI in the Super Series.

If Rohit Sharma hits 7 sixes during the series against Bangladesh he will be the Indian batter with most sixes in Test cricket. The right-handed batter will also become the fastest Indian to achieve this feat. Ben Stokes leads the overall list with 131 sixes with Rohit Sharma currently in the 11th place.
