For the third game in succession there was massive controversy in the IPL. Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Sharma had been given not out in the last two games to create huge debate on social media. On Saturday, it was the turn of Dewald Brevis in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru versus Chennai Super Kings game.
Watch the video here:
The incident occurred in the third ball of the 17th over with Lungi Ngidi bowling to Brevis. The batter was struck right on his pads and the umpire had no hesitation in giving the batter out. Brevis decided to confer with Ravindra Jadeja and opt to use the DRS as the RCB players surrounded the umpire.
It was decided that the time had run-out despite no presence of the timer on the broadcast being shown. Jadeja went to the umpire and made his point but Brevis was asked to head back to the hut for a golden duck. What made it even more horrendous was had CSK reviewed the decision it would have gone in their favor.
Once the replays came on the big screen it was seen that the ball was missing the stumps. Dewald Brevis who has been in fine form with the bat had to head back to the hut disappointed with the call being made. Just the ball before Ngidi had struck to get the wicket of Ayush Mhatre for 94 off 48 balls. The South African bowler had put down an easy chance off Jadeja in the final ball of the previous over.
Umpiring controversies grab headlines in IPL 2025
In the Rajasthan Royals versus Mumbai Indians encounter, Rohit Sharma was given out LBW while facing Fazalhaq Farooqi. The batter decided to go a DRS with the clock just going down to zero. The replays showed the ball pitching partially pitching outside the leg-stump as Rohit survived a close call.
On Friday during the Gujarat versus Rajasthan game, Abhishek Porel was struck full on his pads but the umpire didn’t give it out. GT decided to use the review but the call still came in favor of the visitors. Shubman Gill lost his cool for the second time in the day and argue with the officials before Abhishek Sharma and others clamed down the GT skipper.
