'If he gets runs in the first game...' - Michael Clarke predicts India's star batter's performance in upcoming BGT 2024

Virat Kohli's form is one of the most discussed topics recently, especially because the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 is coming up in a few days. Former Australian batter Michael Clarke spoke about Kohli and reminisced about the times when he scored runs in Australia. Clarke also mentioned that if he gets runs in the first game, he will set great momentum and will score in the entire series. 

"Virat Kohli has had a lot of success in Australia – six hundred in 13 Test matches if I remember right. He will be hungry & he will know the conditions will suit him. I am very sure he will score the maximum runs for India if they are to win or do well in this series. If he gets runs in the first game, he will get runs all series and will make it count. He loves the fight, getting into the action. See the build-up around him. All of this will pump him up for sure," said Michael Clarke.

Playing in Australia is Kohli's personal favourite, having played in 25 Tests and scored 2,042 runs at an average of 47.48, including eight centuries. This is an impressive stat and his presence will make the series interesting. 

Jasprit Bumrah to captain team India in first Test match against Australia

Meanwhile, in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah is set to captain team India in the first Test match against Australia. Rohit will be missing out on the first game due to personal reasons and will join the team for the rest of the series. The responsibility on Bumrah will be greater than usual because finding Rohit's replacement as a batter is a tough nut to crack. 

There are a few players in contention for the opening position. Since Shubman Gill is also unfit for the first game, the No. 3 position is also vacant. The management will have a tough time preparing the team for the BGT series and finding out the best players for the playing XI.
