Almost a week ago, the Board of Control for Cricket in India invited applications for the role of head coach for India’s Men’s Cricket Team. Meanwhile, the news reports have learned about the names of some former cricketers who are in contention to become India’s next head coach after the end of current head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure.

Meanwhile, the former India spin great and now a cricket expert Harbhajan Singh has expressed his desire to become India’s next head coach. However, it is yet to be confirmed if Harbhajan Singh will apply for the role of India’s next head coach.

"Coaching India is about man management not about teaching players" - Harbhajan Singh

However, Harbhajan spoke about his stance on becoming or having some desire to be in this position. He also extended his gratitude to the game of cricket for giving him such a name and being his claim to fame.

“I do not know if I would apply. Coaching India is about man management, not about teaching players how to drive and pull. They know it very well. You can give some guidance to them. Cricket has given me so much and If I get a chance to give it back, I would be more than happy,” said Harbhajan Singh to ANI.

Notably, the deadline to apply for the position of Indian Men’s Cricket Team’s head coach is May 27, 2024. So, it will be interesting to see if the former World Cup champion off-spinner applies for this role.

Furthermore, Harbhajan Singh also expressed his opinions about the selection of spinners in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, in the USA and West Indies starting on June 1.

“The World Cup team has been selected. The batting is good. I think we are one fast bowler short. One player that I think we will miss is Rinku Singh, because he is someone who can win the match single-handedly for us. He can chase down 60 runs in 20 balls. I think selecting four spinners is a bit too much. Three would have been enough. I wish Team India all the best, hope they bring the cup,” he added later.
