Captain Rohit Sharma has finally announced that KL Rahul will continue to open for India in the upcoming Pink Ball Test match against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Rahul's terrific form and performance in the previous game helped him book the seat as an opener.
This means that Rohit will bat in the middle order, maybe after or before Virat Kohli. This information increased the thrill of the match as well since Rohit hasn't played in the spot for a very long time.
In the press conference regarding Rahul's batting position, Rohit said, "The way KL batted, I was watching from home with new born baby on arms, he played brilliantly so there is no need to change now, things might be different in future - the way KL bats in overseas, so he deserves that spot at this point of time."
The second Test match will start on December 6, at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. Australia will have the upper edge in the match as they haven't lost a single match with the Pink Ball. Well, this certainly raises the pressure on India, but it shouldn't matter much. Now that Captain Sharma is back on the side, the middle order has become even stronger.
These two will play a role in the rest of the series: Rohit Sharma
Indian spin wizards Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were dropped from the 1st Test match because of the pitch. Speaking about the players and their calibre, Rohit Sharma said that they will be helpful in the upcoming games of the series. He also mentioned that the management made the decision and he had no role in it.
"I wasn’t there personally to break the news to Ashwin and Jadeja that they won’t be playing at Perth. The management went with the best team they thought that suited that pitch. These two will play a role in the rest of the series. They have been massive to India’s record in the past. We shall look at the pitches and decide," said Rohit Sharma in the press conference.
