Vidarbha ended India’s domestic season with their Ranji Trophy title win over Kerala. Karun Nair, who has been in thick run-scoring form with the bat during the season, was overjoyed after winning the title. The 33-year-old scored 86 and 135 in the finals to help his side win the title.
Karun Nair was asked if his recent run of form will see him earn a spot in the Indian side for the England tour. Nair is India’s only triple century maker in Test cricket after Virender Sehwag. The 33-year-old seemingly left it to the selectors and wants to focus on making runs for his side. Nair will be next seen playing for the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
The 33-year-old, as quoted by Sports Tak, said after the Ranji Trophy final, “I'm not the right person to ask (about national team recall). I cannot comment on that. I have to just say that I have to keep performing in every game that I get and if it happens, it happens. I have to do my job to the best.”
Season to remember for Karun Nair
It has been a tremendous season for veteran batter Karun Nair. The 33-year-old scored more than 850 runs in the Ranji Trophy and over 250 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. It was during the Vijay Hazare Trophy that Nair put his name on the map with 779 runs and an average of 389.5
The media asked Nair about his celebration after reaching his tonne, to which he said, “I’d been speaking about it before this match that I've got eight centuries; if I score another one, I'll show nine. I was just speaking to some of our sidearm throwers, Yash Thorat, who always help us with batting and everything. We were speaking and I said to him that if I do score a hundred, I'll show him the nine, so it was discussed."
The veteran batter who was playing his fourth Ranji final of his career said to the media, “I just think about it, as not many people have the opportunity to play finals and I've been lucky to play four finals. Just to make sure, always keep thinking that we are all very lucky to be getting this opportunity so just make the most of it. Try your best and be focused and determined to do well in such matches because not everyone gets to play such matches.”
