Hardik Pandya's life since becoming Mumbai Indians' captain has changed completely. Starting from fans' anger to finishing at the bottom of the points table to losing India's T20I captaincy, Pandya's life has taken a U-turn in the true sense. The Board made Suryakumar Yadav the captain of the T20I squad for the tour against Sri Lanka, while Pandya was already the vice-captain of the Indian team during the World Cup 2024.

India's former batting coach, Sanjay Bangar, expressed his disappointment in removing Hardik Pandya from captaincy since his performance was wonderful in the tournament. His contribution to the finals of the World Cup was commendable. Hence, he deserved to be the captain of India.

"So there is nothing wrong in Suryakumar being made the captain. I fully believe that he will do a good job but I still feel a little injustice has been meted out to Hardik. I am a bit surprised as far as Hardik not being the captain of the T20 team is concerned because even before the previous T20 World Cup it seemed like if Rohit hadn't become the captain and Hardik hadn't gotten injured at that time," said Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar.
