Adam Zampa is one of the finest leg-spinner in the T20 format. He has been highly impressive since his U-19 days and managed to continue the fine form in international and franchise leagues. Zampa made his Indian Premier League debut with Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and straightaway made a significant impact with his spin wizardry.

Recently, the New South Wales cricketer opened up about his experiences and emotions during his remarkable IPL debut. He recalled the moments when he bowled against the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Zampa shared that he felt over the moon after dismissing the legendary South African.

In the following match, the leggie grabbed a six-fer against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to enjoy a dream debut. His figures of 6/19 were the second-best in the league’s history until 2019. Zampa admitted that his six-wicket haul led him to believe he could fetch a whopping sum at the IPL auction, which never happened.

"I got my debut, bowled to Virat for the first time, got De Villiers out twice in two balls and then the next game was the six-fer and then you're like they're obviously going to pick me up because of the six-fer. Then you go back and you're like I just got to have a solid year. And then I had a stinker and never got a multi-million dollar payday from the IPL,” the 32-year-old said.

I went through all kinds of emotions: Adam Zampa on not getting enough opportunities

Despite showing off his prowess, Zampa got the opportunity to play in only five matches in the 2016 season. Although it was a great experience, the Aussie cricketer was sometimes frustrated at not being a regular in the team.

"I had a bit of international experience before that (IPL debut) and I always wanted to be a part of the IPL. I went through all kinds of emotions right from how good it is just to be a part of to I am sick of this just get me home I am not playing,” he concluded.

Zampa, who has represented multiple IPL franchises over the years, has so far played only 20 matches in which he has taken 29 wickets. He was part of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2024 but withdrew from the tournament due to personal reasons.
