The 42-year-old James Anderson, who has retired from international cricket, has registered for the mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This decision came as a surprise to many people, and trolls started on social media against for English player for registering after retiring from cricket. Slamming the trollers, Anderson opened up about his decision to join IPL at such an age.
"There is still definitely something in me that thinks like I can still play. I have never done the IPL; I have never experienced it and I think for a number of reasons I feel like I have more to give as a player. I have done a little bit of coaching since I have finished in the summer. I have been around the England team doing a bit of mentoring or whatever you like to call it," Anderson told BBC Radio 4 Today in a podcast.
Anderson last played a T20 game for Lancashire in 2014. Even though he is ageing, he still believes he has the strength to contribute to the game, which is commendable. He is a world-class bowler, and having him in any team is an advantage.
KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant on the auction table
After playing for almost 2-3 years for their respective franchises, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant will be seen on the auction table under the hammer in the mega auction. Along with them, there are star players like Shreyas Iyer, Mitchell Starc, and many more who will be auctioned on November 24 and 25. After the retentions, the franchise will be busy buying players and forming a core team with the leftover money.
Teams like PBKS and RCB have a huge amount left in their purse and can go for these players. RCB will definitely aim for Pant or Rahul because of their captaincy experience as well. They don't have a captaincy candidate on the retention list. However, reports surfaced on the internet regarding Virat Kohli's taking on the captaincy. It's unlikely that Kohli will return to captaincy, so a slot is open.
