One of the headlines in the IPL 2025 mega auction last month was the ‘LSG not picking their ex-skipper KL Rahul in their squad’ for the upcoming edition of the tournament. Notably, KL was the first player to be signed by the franchise when they debuted in the Indian Premier League 2022.
LSG made headlines when they qualified for the tournament playoffs for two successive seasons. Unfortunately, the 2024 season went against their expectations, putting KL Rahul under the scanner, both for his batting and his captaincy.
In the same line of events, a ‘divide’ and a ‘rift’ took ground in the relationship of skipper KL Rahul and franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka. It started when the duo engaged in a heated altercation after a massive 10-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 league stage.
KL Rahul has always been family to me - Sanjiv Goenka
Meanwhile, Sanjiv Goenka recently broke his silence over KL Rahul’s departure from LSG and his getting set to play for a new franchise (Delhi Capitals) in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
“KL Rahul has always been family to me and he will remain that way. He captained Lucknow for three years and has shown great results during his tenure. I genuinely wish for his success, no matter what happens,” said Goenka on the TRS podcast.
“Shareef insan hai (He is a good person). He is very honest and decent, and I wish that everything good happens to an honest person like him. He is also very talented and I wish he would display his talent to the world. I am very sure he will do well. My best wishes are with him,” he added later.
Now, KL Rahul will be playing for DC in the Indian Premier League 2024; there are also speculations that he might also be a ‘captaincy option’ for the franchise that, star Indian southpaw Rishabh Pant earlier led. Interestingly, DC's former skipper Rishabh Pant will be in action for LSG in the tournament's upcoming edition.
