Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) Glenn Maxwell takes an indefinite break from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. During a recent press conference post the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Maxwell opened up about how he convinced Faf du Plessis to drop him from the team and give someone else a chance as he wasn't doing justice to his given role. Moreover, SRH defeated RCB by 25 runs in their recent encounter.
"For me, personally, it was a pretty easy decision. I went to Faf [du Plessis] and the coaches after the last game and said I felt it was probably time we tried someone else. I have been in this situation in the past where you can keep playing and get yourself deeper into a hole. I think now is actually a good time for me to give myself a bit of a mental and physical break, get my body right," said Maxwell at the press conference.
In the IPL 2024, Maxwell has scored only 32 runs in six matches at an average of 5.33. This has not been a very good year for him and this decision of taking a break might benefit both the player and the team. Moreover, RCB's performance in this year's IPL hasn't been impressive due to their bowling line-up. Currently, RCB is at the bottom of the points table and only a miracle can save them in the later half of the tournament.
'If I'm required to get in during the tournament...' - Glenn Maxwell's plans on returning to IPL 2024
During the press conference, Glenn Maxwell also spoke about his plans for returning to the IPL 2024 after taking an indefinite break. Maxwell's contribution to the team in this year's IPL hasn't been much and hence, he hopes to be back to the team with a better mental state where he can contribute more and help the team like the previous years.
"If I'm required to get in during the tournament, I can hopefully get back into a really solid mental and physical space where I can still have an impact. We have had a pretty big deficiency straight after the powerplay, which has been my area of strength over the last couple of seasons," said Maxwell.
