Mumbai Indians' captain, Hardik Pandya, is all set to lead the team in the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. However, skipper Pandya was banned from one game because of the slow overrate in the previous season. Hence, during the pre-season presser, he announced that Suryakumar Yadav would take responsibility for the team for one game. Hardik also mentioned that he wasn't aware of the consequences of the rule.
"I think that is something out of my control. Last year, what occurred was part of the sport; I think we bowled one and a half or two minutes late. At that point in time, I did not know the consequences of what could happen. It is unfortunate, but it is the rule. Will they continue with this rule next year? I think it is up to the higher authorities. They can see into it and how it can be done," said Hardik Pandya during MI's pre-season press conference.
MI will play their first game against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Both teams have a long history of rivalry, and they will continue it in the upcoming seasons as well.
I am lucky that I have 3 captains playing with me: Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya also spoke about playing alongside three captains in the tournament. The MI team is one of the most star-studded teams in the IPL, with players like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Trent Boult and many others. They have a strong chance of winning the tournament this season.
"I am lucky that I have three captains playing with me. If I need help, I know that there are 3 different minds who have led India in different formats. Surya obviously leads India as well. So, when I am not there, he is the ideal choice in this format, and an exciting one too," said Hardik Pandya.
