Things didn’t seem to fall in the right place for Prithvi Shaw in professional cricket. The young Mumbai batter has been enduring a tough run in his life both on and off the field for the last couple of years. Meanwhile, a lot of former cricketers and experts have backed his talent and raised a concern about his ‘discipline issues’.
However, Shaw displayed a few good performances in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, in which he was also part of Mumbai’s title-winning squad. Subsequently, he made it to the headlines after Mumbai selectors ignored him while picking the squad for the upcoming domestic List-A tournament, Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25.
In the same line of events, Shaw shared a cryptic story on his official Instagram handle, expressing his dejection over getting ignored by selectors from the elite List-A tournament.
“Tell me, God, what more do I have to see… if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I'm not good enough,” wrote Prithvi Shaw in his Instagram story.
“But I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people believe in me still. cause I will come back for sure. OM SAI RAM,” his story reads further.

We can't babysit anyone, right? - Shreyas Iyer
Besides this, the Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer also came up with a ‘reality check’ statement while speaking about Prithvi Shaw just a day or two ago.
“I think he is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he possesses as an individual, no one has it. It's just that he needs to improve his work ethic,” said Iyer after Mumbai won the SMAT title, beating MP by 5 wickets in the final.
“He needs to get his work ethic right. And if he does that, the sky's the limit for him. We can't babysit anyone, right? He has played so much cricket. Everyone has given him input. At the end of the day, it's his job to figure out things for himself. And he has also done it in the past. It's not that he hasn't,” the Mumbai skipper added later.
