The defeat has raised serious concerns ahead of the tour of Australia.

Many experts have questioned Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s decision to skip the Duleep Trophy tournament. The Indian batting duo had decided to skip the tournament citing a ‘lack of motivation’ ahead of the home series.

Team India is set to go to Australia on the 10th and 11th of November in two different batches. With a week left to go for the departure, there is a great chance for India’s batting stalwarts to get some match practice.

Mumbai and Delhi set for huge Ranji clashes

Defending champions Mumbai are set to take on Odisha in the game starting on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma can use this game as match practice before leaving for Australia. The latest round of Ranji matches begins on Wednesday 6th November and ends on Saturday 9th November.

Delhi will travel to Chandigarh to play the home team in a key clash on the same. It will be a great chance for Virat Kohli to iron out his flaws. At this stage of the year, the ball will swing and seam in Chandigarh which has been a huge Achilles heel for the former Indian skipper.

Another aspect that will work in the favor of the duo is that they will not have to put pressure on themselves. The game can act as a perfect launch pad to get their confidence back before heading down under.

India’s two biggest batting hopes are currently going through a phase where they are not only short of runs but also lack confidence. Their footwork against spin during the series against New Zealand was dodgy. Playing the latest round of Ranji matches against decent spinners can help the two stars warm up.

If the BCCI and the selectors are serious about the duo’s form then Ranji Trophy is the best place to begin. Their departure to Australia can be pushed back by a day or two. it is the need of the hour for both Rohit and Virat to get back their confidence which is at their lowest. Playing an extra game at home would certainly be the right way forward.
