Rohit Sharma-led Indian Cricket team's next assignment is against New Zealand where they'll play a 3-match Test series. After that, India will travel to Australia to play a 5-match Test series in the Australian conditions ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) finals in June 2025. Now, these two series are extremely important for India since the WTC qualification is at stake.
After having a terrific series against Bangladesh, India have retained their first position and have chances to qualify for the finals if they win just three out of their next eight games. Moreover, if India go for a series whitewash against New Zealand, one draw in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 would be sufficient for India to qualify for the WTC Finals.
If India manage to qualify for the finals, this will be their third consecutive qualification. Before this, India played against New Zealand in 2021 and against Australia in 2023. The WTC trophy is the only trophy which hasn't come to India yet and Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir duo would be looking forward to change this. Now that the Test team is looking complete, the chances of India winning the trophy have rises.
Rohit Sharma credits Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri for his Test cricket success
India's ODI and Test format skipper Rohit Sharma opened up about his comeback in Test cricket and have the credit to the then captain of India Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri for giving him another chance despite a lot of failed scores in a trot.
The plan to promote Rohit up the batting order worked like a charm for the Indian team as they got the best opener and India's future captain. While the former duo Kohli-Shastri never got any appreciation for this accolade, Rohit came forward to acknowledge their efforts shown towards him like a true teammate.
Rohit said in a YouTube show, ""In the second innings, I was very grateful to Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli for giving me the opportunity to bat up the order. It wasn’t an easy decision to promote me in Tests. They trusted me."
