How can Sri Lanka reach the finals of WTC 2025 finals after their win against England in Oval?

Here is how the Sri Lanka cricket team can reach the finals of the World Test Championship finals after their win over England in the third Test at Oval.

Sri Lanka halted the winning run of the England cricket team after their win against the home team in the Oval Test. Pathum Nissanka scored a century to help his team win the game by 7 wickets. The loss meant that England now have slipped to the 6th spot in the table. 

With this win, Sri Lanka have leapfrogged England to move to 5th spot in the table. Dhananjaya De Silva and his side have played 7 Test matches and have won three games and lost 4 matches. The Lankans have a percentage of 42.86 so far with a total of 36 points. 

Speaking at the end of the game, Nissanka said “It was a great opportunity to play in England. Enjoyed that innings. It was slightly difficult in the morning but I had a positive mindset and went with that. Just wanted to play my normal game”

How can Sri Lanka reach the WTC finals? 

Sri Lanka have to make sure that they win their next few Test matches. The Islanders have to win all their games to make sure that they hold a chance to make it to the World Test Championships finals in 2025. 

The Sri Lankans have to win both their matches against New Zealand at home which is to be held at home. The Lankans will then travel to South Africa for a two-match Test series starting on the 27th of November. The first Test will be played in Durban with the 2nd Test being played in Gqeberha. 

India is top of the table of the World Test Championships and will play Bangladesh at home next. This will be followed by the series at home against New Zealand in a three-match series. Team India will then tour Australia for a five-match series which is set to begin on 22nd of November in Perth. 

England have 6 Test matches left to play which begins with a three-match series in Pakistan. This will be followed by a tour of New Zealand where Ben Stokes and his side will play three Tests. Pakistan after their 3 Test vs England will play against South Africa and West Indies. 

At this stage of the points table, India are favourites to reach the finals of the World Test Championships. The game is to be held in Lord’s and there is a massive anticipation of an India vs Australia re-match from the 2023 finals.
