India's young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has been incredible with his performance in the Test and T20I teams. Jaiswal is one of those players who has maintained his consistency since the start of his career. In a recent interview with Sportsdunia, Jaiswal's coach, Jwala Singh, was asked about the player being India's future captain, to which he replied, "He should only focus on the role he has now."

"Leadership is not learned from books; books are there for learning. Captaincy and leadership qualities are born inside, and they are learned from mistakes and experiences from the matches. If someone has the experience to become the captain. But it is too early to talk about it right now, as he has only played one and a half years for India. His prime focus should be on performing well across formats for India. Later on, he will have the opportunity to lead the team, which is secondary at the moment. He should only focus on the role he has now, which is to score runs for the country," said Jwala Singh during an interview with Sportsdunia.

Jaiswal has yet to make his spot permanent on the ODI team. With the presence of Rohit Sharma, that doesn't seem possible. However, after Rohit's retirement, Jaiswal and Shubman Gill could open for India in the ODIs.

He needs to set the record straight as well: Aakash Chopra

Meanwhile, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra spoke about Shubman Gill and his performance in the Champions Trophy 2025. Gill's performance has come down in the last two games, and to win the finals, India will surely need his contribution. He has the ability to give a good start along with Rohit Sharma in the powerplays.

"Shubman Gill started the tournament with a bang; he scored a century and was playing well in the second match against Pakistan as well. However, he has gone slightly down in the two matches after that. So he needs to set the record straight as well," said Aakash Chopra.
