Babar Azam (Source: X)
Babar Azam has always been under criticism for his lack of consistency in every format. While he had a good time during the ODI series against Australia, he was dropped from the Test squad against England at home. Babar is a stylish batter and has done well for Pakistan in the past. However, his form has tumbled in the last few years which has been a problem.
Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar spoke about Babar Azam and how he backs him. While talking to PTV Sports, Akhtar urged Babar to score centuries in the upcoming Champions Trophy tournament which will help him cement his place in the team.
"He is our star player and has my backing but with the new management and the new thinking, he will have to show performances. Otherwise, he will not be considered for ODIs and T20Is. Babar needs to be at his best in the Champions Trophy. He will have to score three match-winning hundreds; otherwise, the path is going to be difficult for him," said Shoaib Akhtar on PTV Sports.
We are not targeting anyone: Aaqib Javed
The current Pakistan coach, Aaqib Javed, spoke about the players and their performances ahead of the tournament. As per the coach, they aren't targeting a specific player but want everyone to perform. The Champions Trophy would be an important tournament for the team since it's happening in their own home ground. The expectations level will be high, and not fulfilling it will bring in a lot of criticism for the team.
"Look, cricket is not about individuals. In the end, whatever we do as selectors, the idea is for Pakistan to win. How Babar batted in Australia, everybody saw. We are not targeting anyone. We know that Babar, (Mohammad) Rizwan, and Fakhar (Zaman) have loads of experience and have delivered in the past," said Aaqib Javed.
