Sri Lankan batter Kamindu Mendis scored his fifth Test century during the 2nd day of second Test in Galle. This makes the left-handed batter from Sri Lanka the fastest batter from Asia to achieve this feat. The Sri Lankan star had also scored a century during the first game of the series to help his side win the Test.

The feat came in the 4th ball of the 125th over with a single off Glenn Phillips. The entire Sri Lankan team stood up and applauded the left-handed batter. At the time of writing Kamindu Mendis was batting on 113 with the home teams’ score at 447/5 in the 137th over.

The 25-year-old has already scored 5 Test centuries in just 9 Test matches. It has been a great start to his career in the longest format of the game. The left-handed batter was also his side’s most important batter in the red ball format during the England tour.

Angelo Mathews falls short of well deserved ton

Sri Lanka started the day with the score reading 306 on the board. Glenn Phillips struck in the 97th over of the day when he had the former Lankan skipper out for 88. Mathews was caught by William O Rourke as he fell short of yet another century by 12 runs. The knock came off 185 balls with 7 hits to the fence.

Skipper Dhananjaya De Silva came out with an aggressive frame of mind. The right-handed batter was out for 44 off 80 balls. It was Glenn Phillips who got the Lankan skipper caught by Tom Blundell.

Kusal Mendis came out to give centurion Kamindu company and the pair had cross the fifty run partnership. If Sri Lanka win this game they will not only go on to 2-0 series win but also have a genuine chance of being in the race for WTC finals.

The best bowler for the visiting side is Glenn Phillips who has bowled 30 overs and picked 3/86. The Kiwi star also had played a huge role in the wicket of Dimuth Karunaratne with a strong fielding effort to run out the former Lankan skipper.
