Former India player Sunil Gavaskar made a blunt statement on Nitish Kumar Reddy after the young all-rounder slammed his maiden Test century at MCG. Gavaskar praised him for his magnificent innings and wished for some more centuries in the future. However, he urged the 21-year-old player not to take Indian cricket 'for granted' after getting successful. Reddy hit a beautiful boundary to get to his century just before the day was interrupted by rain.

"This is the first Test hundred and he is going to score many more in the near future. I am expecting to see him among the runs in the future. He is a star of the Indian cricket. However, he will have to remember the sacrifices made by his father and other members of the family. Nitish is here because of Indian cricket and he will have to make sure that he doesn’t take Indian cricket for granted. If he stays true to himself, a successful career lies ahead of him," said Sunil Gavaskar on Star Sports.

India's day ended on 358-9 with Reddy and Mohammed Siraj still on crease. It was a fruitful day for the team as Washington Sundar and Reddy made a blistering partnership of 127 runs in 285 balls for the 8th wicket. The lower-order batters did their best, and the same will be expected from the bowlers.

Sanjay Manjrekar reverses his statement on Nitish Reddy

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar reversed his statement on Nitish Kumar Reddy after the player scored a century in Melbourne. Earlier, Manjrekar said that Reddy was 'disturbing the balance of the team.' Reddy is a bowling all-rounder but hasn't gotten much chance to bowl in the series, with the reasons being unknown. However, several former players took a dig at Reddy for the same.

"At the start of BGT, I thought Nitish Kumar Reddy was disturbing the balance of the Indian team, but now he's perfect for this Indian team, and he played one of the Finest Hundred for India. He's brilliant in all departments, front and backfoot," said Sanjay Manjrekar.
