'He came to my room at Gqeberha and...' - Captain Suryakumar Yadav reveals Tilak Varma's request prior to T20I series vs South Africa

Captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that Tilak Varma went into his before the match and asked him to be promoted up the order in the 3rd T20I game.

India clinched victory in the 3rd T20I against South Africa thanks to young Tilak Varma's magnificent century. He played an incredible knock, scoring 107 runs in 56 balls. He hit eight boundaries and seven sixes in his innings. Tilak's dedication was quite evident during his batting, but captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that Tilak went into his room before the match and asked him to be promoted up the order, and in return, he promised he would play well. 

"What more can I say about Tilak Varma? He (Tilak) came to my room at Gqeberha and said give me a chance at No. 3, I want to do well and I said go out there and express yourself. He asked for it and he delivered. Very happy for him and his family. Yes, he will bat at No.3 for now," said SKY during the post-match presentation. 

Varma's consistency for India has been quite impressive. He has been performing well in most of the games. He is one of the most reliable players in the squad currently who knows his job and how to go about it. Now that he has become a top-order batter, India will get some quick starts in every game.

Tilak Varma played incredibly well in the third T20I game against South Africa. He scored a century, which helped the team beat the Proteas in their own home ground. With this win, India is leading the series, 2-1. Varma expressed his happiness on the win and thanked his captain for giving him the opportunity to bat at No.3.

"It was a difficult chance but I am happy we won the game. I cannot put it in words. It was my dream to play for the country and the hundred came at the right time when the team needed it. All credit to Mr. Suryakumar Yadav, our captain. He gave me the opportunity to bat at 3 and told me to express myself," said Tilak Varma.
