Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali feels that Varun Chakravarthy shouldn’t have been named the player of the match. The 33-year-old picked three wickets which included the wickets of Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, and Jos Buttler as India won by seven wickets. According to Basit Ali, the award should have gone to Arshdeep Singh.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, the former Pakistan batter said “Who should be the Man of the Match? Abhishek Sharma? Or Varun? My Man of the Match is Arshdeep. He bulldozed the batting with his dismissals at the top. He finished the match in three overs”
Arshdeep Singh began by bowling a well-directed short ball to Phil Salt who was caught by Sanju Samson for a duck. Ben Duckett got off the mark with a boundary before trying to flick the pace bowler for a four. Duckett managed to get a leading edge as Rinku Singh settled under the ball and took an easy catch to send the batter back to the hut for four runs.
Former Pakistan batter praises India’s bowling unit
Basit Ali in a video on his YouTube had nothing but words of praise for Indian bowlers. The former batter said “Varun's Chakravarthy bowling was too good. He took three wickets. But in my view, Arshdeep bowled the best although he took two wickets, Bishnoi bowled well, with four overs and 22 runs; no wickets but he bowled well. Why Axar bowled well was because he gave 15 runs in an over but the way he came after that, especially with the ball getting wet”
Varun Chakravarthy who made a dream comeback to the Indian side spoke to BCCI about his amazing bowling. Chakravarthy said “Feels good. It’s my first player of the match for the country and feels great because it gives me a sense of certainty."
The veteran spinner also praised Arshdeep Singh and said “Look he’s much senior to me and he has won the World Cup for the country. He’s been in amazing form for the country and he’s been picking up wickets regularly. So, I wish he can keep doing that and keep making his family and country proud”
