India’s women’s cricket team exacted their revenge against Sri Lanka to win a huge game during the Women’s T20 World Cup. It was a must-win game for India to not only keep their hopes alive in the tournament but also to better their run rate. Before this game, India had lost to New Zealand before beating Pakistan on Sunday.

With this loss, Sri Lanka are now out of the tournament having lost their 3rd game in a row. It was a sweet win for Harmanpreet Kaur in particular as Sri Lanka was the team that had beaten India just a few months ago to win the Asia Cup title for the 1st time.

The table has taken a huge turn as India now are 2nd in the table and also has got their run-rate in the positive. Australia head the table with four points from 2 games after wins against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, India has four points from 3 games and will take on Australia in their final game.

Pakistan still has two games against both Australia and New Zealand. India will hope that the Pakistani side can do them a favour by beating New Zealand. The women in blue will then hope that they beat Australia in their last match and make it through to the semi-finals of the tournament.

India blanks Sri Lanka by a massive margin of 82 runs

Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bat first and led the charge with the bat. Smriti Mandhana began well as he scored 50 off 38 balls, while Shafali Varma scored 43. India’s skipper hit an unbeaten 52 as she fought back from the neck injury she suffered in the last game. India ended their innings on 172 for the loss of 4 wickets.

Sri Lanka were 6/3 as Renuka Singh Thakur dismissed Vishmi Gunaratne and Harshita Samarawickrama. Shreyanka Patil got the wicket of Chamari Athapaththu for 1. Kavisha Dillari and Anushka Sanjeeevani then added 37 runs for the 4th wicket.

That stand was broken when the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper was out for 20 to Asha Shobana. Kavisha Dillari was the best batter with 21 off 22 balls with 1 four while Ama Kanchana scored 19 as only 3 batters reached double figures. Arundhati Reddy and Asha Shobana picked 3 wickets each as India now have moved to 2nd spot in Group A with a run rate of +0.576.
