Speaking at the end of the day, the veteran batter was quoted by NDTV as saying “In the last couple of years, I've forgotten what my position is and what I am comfortable doing. I'm happy to be given different responsibilities and roles. It makes the game exciting and makes me want to challenge myself and train that much harder. I have quite enjoyed doing that."

The 33-year-old also went onto say “The last couple of series, my role has been to open the batting. That is something that I did growing up and in my early career. I am happy that I am back doing that and I am happy that I am doing the job for the team”. Out of Rahul’s nine Test tons, eight have come while opening the batting with one ton while batting at number six.

‘Ideally would have wanted 40 runs more’ – KL Rahul looks ahead to tantalizing final day in Leeds

Team India were all out for 364 with an overall lead of 370. By the end of the day England had scored 21 runs without losing any wicket. The hosts now need 350 runs more to win the game on the final day of the match. India lost their way after Rahul chopped the ball back onto his stumps to give Brydon Carse his third wicket of the innings.

Speaking to the media at the end of the day, Rahul said he felt India should have ideal scored 40 runs more. The veteran batter said “Blockbuster finish waiting tomorrow. There's definitely going to be a result. That's what England have said openly and it gives us the opportunity to pick up 10 wickets”

“Today was a tricky wicket. Tomorrow it might break even more. We'll give ourselves the best chance to pick up the 10 wickets. At tea, there was a little bit of discussion on how much we need, or whether to give them (England) a few overs to bat and pick up a few wickets. Ideally we would have wanted about 40 runs more” Further added KL Rahul.
