Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill receives a fine of INR 24 lakhs after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on May 10. Moreover, since this was the 2nd time this happened, the entire team including the Impact Player were also fined.
"As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," read the IPL Advisory.
However, after a brilliant win over the CSK team, this fine doesn't seem to be much for the skipper. Gill and Sai Sudarshan played an amazing knock against the bowlers scoring individual centuries along with a 210-run partnership in 17.2 overs. The men in yellow failed to take a wicket which cost them the match and their chances to qualify for the playoffs.
'Lot of fun batting with him...' - Skipper Shubman Gill on Sai Sudarshan
After scoring individual centuries, skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan (104 and 103), both the openers made a partnership of 210 runs. They smashed the CSK bowlers out of the park and dominated the game really well. With this, GT has kept their playoff hopes alive. After this, they have to win both of their matches and maintain a good net run rate.
"We have a good camaraderie between us. Even last year we batted a lot together. A lot of fun batting with him. In terms of numbers, definitely it is (the best opening partnership for GT). Mohit bhai has done this for us the last couple of years. Even last year, his bowling was a revelation. Even this year, two or three bad games can happen to anyone," said Gill at the post-match presentation.
