Australia’s middle-order batter Grace Harris has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 after suffering a calf strain. The injury occurred during the third and final ODI against India in New Delhi on Saturday, September 20, when Harris pulled up sore while fielding. Western Australian all-rounder Heather Graham has been called in as her replacement for the tournament.

Harris featured in just one match of the series, having been drafted into the side after Annabel Sutherland was sidelined with hip soreness. Although she was not expected to be part of Australia’s preferred starting XI for the World Cup, Harris remained an important back-up option. Her ability to provide explosive runs in the lower order made her a valuable reserve, particularly given the fitness concerns surrounding several senior players.

Australia’s squad has been carrying multiple injury worries in the lead-up to the tournament. Sutherland’s hip problem followed Phoebe Litchfield’s quad strain, which ruled her out of the final two ODIs against India. Meanwhile, pace bowler Darcie Brown was troubled by back spasms during the same series.

Sophie Molineux has been unavailable as she continues her rehabilitation from major knee surgery and was not considered for the India tour. Georgia Wareham, returning from a groin and adductor strain that had kept her out of the Hundred competition, managed to get through the matches in Delhi.  Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who has spent significant time on the sidelines with a serious foot injury, also successfully played all three games, offering some reassurance to the selectors.

Good opportunity for Heather Graham

For Heather Graham, this call-up presents a major opportunity. The 28-year-old has only one ODI appearance to her name, back in 2019, but has consistently been around Australia’s extended squads. She last played international cricket in September 2024, completing five career T20Is.

Australia enjoyed a successful ODI series against hosts India, clinching the three-match contest 2-1. They sealed the series with a commanding performance in the final ODI, scoring over 400 runs and securing a 43-run victory.
