Venkatesh Iyer becomes the third highest pick of the day in the ongoing mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) brought him for INR 23.75 crores. The player is elated after the selection and shows his gratitude towards KKR for selecting him for the second time. He was one of the best batters for the team and played some extraordinary knocks.

“Getting INR 23.75 crore is secondary, but a second chance to play for Kolkata Knight Riders is the most important thing. I am thankful to the team management for putting their trust in me," said Venkatesh Iyer.

KKR have grabbed some best deals in the ongoing auction. Before that, they retained six players because of which Iyer was left out. KKR didn't retain their captain Shreyas Iyer who won the trophy for the team. They won the IPL after 10 years of long wait in the IPL 2024.

They beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the previous IPL season which was quite exciting to watch. Venkatesh Iyer is a brilliant player and having him in the team means the team has a sorted top-order batting attack.

Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer script history in mega auction

Shreyas Iyer went to the Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crores, becoming the second highest-paid player in the IPL history. Soon after he was picked up, Lucknow Super Giants went for Rishabh Pant and brought him for INR 27 crores. Pant's former team Delhi Capitals used their RTM card to grab the player but LSG quoted a price of 27 crores which made them back out.

With this, Pant became the highest-paid player in the history of the tournament. LSG needed a captain and they got it in the form of  Pant. He was the former captain of Delhi Capitals and did well with the team. LSG also have Nicholas Pooran whom they have retained, and might be in the captaincy contention.
