Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh has praised MS Dhoni for his inspiring chat after Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The 33-year-old played a key role for Punjab Kings with the bat last season. Shashank scored an impressive half-century as Punjab Kings beat eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders in a historic chase.
During his chat with PTI, Shashank Singh said “Once, I had a conversation with Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni) about this finisher’s thing. So he told me that if you’re winning three games for your team out of 10, you are in the world’s five or 10 best players,"
The Punjab Kings star also added “That gave me real confidence that it’s important to accept that every match is not possible practically for me to win. So, I just try to collect those good points, which I did. Just try to minus those stupid point or points which were not sensible,"
Sanjay Manjrekar compares Tilak Varma to MS Dhoni
Young Tilak Varma has been in the news for his amazing knock during the 2nd T20I versus England. The left-handed batter scored an unbeaten 72 to help India eke out a two-wicket win in the final over of the game. This knock earned huge kudos from Sanjay Manjrekar who compared the youngster to the former India great.
Speaking to ESPN CRICINFO, former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar said “The confidence he has is that he will be able to see India through the very end, and even in this run chase, there was no panic around the 18th over. Even in the 19th over, you could see that India wasn’t getting the boundary that could take the pressure off. But he was quite happy to virtually be there till the end”
Manjrekar also added “It seems the guy who is confident and being the man who can take his team through, just like we had a legend in the past in the name of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who had the same confidence. So, when you have a player like him, batting at No.3, he might be taking on that role, which is not such a bad thing”
