Indian cricket coach Gautam Gambhir, as per reports, is on his way back to India to tend to a family emergency. Leading news agency ANI reported that “Team India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, is returning to India from England due to a family emergency”. Ryan Ten Doeschate will take over as the temporary coach of the side. The former Dutch batter will be overseeing the preparations for the upcoming India vs England series.
One BCCI source was quoted by Indian Express as saying, "He has informed us that he is flying back home due to personal reasons." He will join the squad soon, at the earliest. He won’t be at the intra-squad game and support staff will be looking after the preparations ahead of the Test series.”
Gambhir had travelled early for the upcoming tour of England with the India A side. Morne Morkel and Ryan Ten Doeschate will be hoping to fill the void for Gambhir and will be hoping to make sure that the Indian cricket team is led by Shubman Gill. The first match of the series begins on 20th June in Leeds.
Matthew Hayden reveals the ideal number four for India.
Former Australian batter Matthew Hayden has said that KL Rahul will be the ideal candidate to bat at number four for India. Former skipper Virat Kohli had batted at the number three spot since 2013 post the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar. KL Rahul is set to bat in the top order along with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Sportskeeda quoted the former Aussie great as saying, “I have just got one other issue here as well. KL Rahul, he will open. I am just going to make that call. My problem with that is I believe he is your best player in Test match cricket. He can be a like-for-like replacement for Virat Kohli, absolutely custom-made at No. 4."
Matthew Hayden also added, "The reason why I don't like him as an opening batter, and we saw this in Australia as well, is he gets out 57% of the time caught behind, nicked off." So he looks so technically sound; how amazing is it? And then suddenly he is out."
