According to reports doing the rounds, Rohit Sharma the Indian skipper has been dealt a bruise on his thumb. The report was carried by RevSportz where it came to light that the incident happened as Rohit Sharma was batting in the nets. This has now sent the Indian team management into frenzy ahead of the game against Pakistan on Sunday.
Rohit Sharma had scored a match-winning fifty in the game against Ireland. The 37-year-old got injured on his arm and had to retire hurt with India just near the winning post. If Rohit Sharma doesn’t play then Hardik Pandya will lead the side and Sanju Samson or Yashasvi Jaiswal could come in as the replacement.
Pakistan meanwhile decided to skip their optional practice session ahead of the game against India. Babar Azam and his side had begun their campaign with a loss to United States of America in the super-over.
Former Pakistan star slams India’s decision to open with Virat Kohli
Kamran Akmal the former Pakistan wicketkeeper has hit out at India’s decision to have Virat Kohli open with Rohit Sharma. According to Kamran Akmal, the former Indian skipper should bat at number 3 for India where has done well with the bat.
Taking to his YouTube channel, Akmal said “I don't think the batting order is correct. Virat Kohli can take the pressure at No.3 and finish the match. That is very important for Team India. Yashasvi Jaiswal should open the batting.
The former Pakistan star also said “Kohli should come at 3. If India stick to this batting order (of Kohli) opening, then they may get stuck at some point. Kohli holds one end up and finishes off the game. I think India are making a mistake by opening with Kohli”
Last time these two sides met in the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli played a match-winning knock. His 82 not out pulled India out of the woods after being in trouble at one stage to give India a famous win.
In their first game of the T20 World Cup, India bowled out Ireland for just 96 runs and won the match by 8 wickets. It will be a huge blow for India if Rohit Sharma has to miss the game and this could lead to a new opening pair coming in to face Pakistan.
