One fan caught the attention of the cameras with a very funny placard that read “Marnus free eye and ear check up”. The fan also mentioned the name of a very famous eyewear brand that left many in splits. Mitchell Starc in particular was testing Yashasvi Jaiswal early with his precise bowling in the early part of 1st session.

Needing 340 to win from 92 overs, India went into lunch at 33/3 having their task cut out to save the game. If India were to lose the MCG test match, then the final game of the series at the SCG will become a must win affair. India has to ensure that they draw the game on Monday and go to SCG and win to keep their WTC finals hopes alive.

Indian top order crumbles yet again

Australia came out to bowl with all guns blazing as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in particular didn’t let the batters settle. Just one boundary was scored in India’s first session with Jaiswal’s perfect on drive being the lone bright spark. Skipper Pat Cummins who has picked 38 wickets at MCG so far made it 40 wickets with 2 quick blows in a single over.

Rohit Sharma’s horrendous second half of 2024 ended when he was out for 9 runs from 40 balls. Indian skipper has scored just 31 runs from 5 innings and has fallen to Cummins on four occasions. In the same over, Cummins also got the key wicket of KL Rahul for a four ball duck to leave India 2 down for 25 runs.

Virat Kohli then came out to bat as all hopes hinged on his shoulders to take India to lunch without much damage. India’s former skipper batted for 29 balls to score 5 runs before falling to Mitchell Starc in the first ball of the final over before lunch. Starc, bowled a tempting ball that Kohli tried to drive. The thick edge of the bat went flying to Usman Khawaja who took his second catch of the day.
