Mohammad Yousuf has stepped down as the selector on Sunday. The announcement came after the former Pakistan cricket skipper took to social media and posted a message. “I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team due to personal reasons. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket.”

This adds more turmoil to the already turbulent time in Pakistan cricket. The men in green are set to take on England in a three-match Test series. The first game is to be played on 7th October and Shan Masood will lead the side.

It is a huge series for Pakistan having lost at home to Bangladesh. It was the first time that Pakistan had lost in a Test match series against the Bangladeshis. Many of the players and even the selection committee were called out after the loss.

Former Pakistan star slams selection committee

Ahmed Shahzad who has played for his national side as an opener has been in the news for his comments in recent times. The right-handed batter slammed the national selector for ignoring Kamran Ghulam for the Test series against England starting on 7th October.

The former batter said “Kamran Ghulam has been ignored as Mohammad Yousuf didn't make him a part of the 15-member squad. Khurram Shahzad is injured, while Aamer Jamal and Shaheen Shah Afridi aren’t fully fit. Despite that, you didn’t pick Mohammad Ali”

“It's hard to understand. How will you justify not picking Kamran and Sahibzada Farhan in the squad? What sin did they commit? Is it because they bat in the same position where Babar bats? When Yousuf was the coach, he left everything to two to three players. Yousuf is the selector and this is the team he is selecting. Give me one logic why Kamran Ghulam was left out” furher added Ahmed Shahzad.

2024 has been yet another difficult year for team Pakistan. The year began with a series loss to New Zealand away from home. Shaheen Shah Afridi was then stripped of his captaincy as Babar Azam was asked to captain the side. Pakistan then drew 2-2 at home against a below-par Kiwi side before barely beating Ireland by 2-1 margin in the T20I series. Their T20 World Cup ended in the first round after losses to the USA and India before losing at home to Bangladesh.
