Hardik Pandya's return to the Mumbai Indians has been a baptism by fire. Mumbai Indians fans haven't taken kindly to him replacing their beloved, five-time championship-winning skipper Rohit Sharma. The boos started at his first game in Ahmedabad and followed him to Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Adding fuel to the fire, Mumbai has lost all three matches so far under Pandya's leadership. This has led to the view that Pandya could be under pressure even though he hasn't made that evident. Many experts have lashed out at fans who have booed and abused him for causing him mental agony and many have suggested that Pandya might not be at his best in terms of mental health.

"He won't allow this to get to him"

In a recent chat with ESPNcricinfo, former Australian captain Michael Clarke offered some insight on Hardik Pandya's situation. While Clarke believes Pandya appears to be handling the pressure well, he acknowledged the need for results. Mumbai Indians' loyal fanbase, accustomed to winning ways, will be a factor Pandya will need to address.

"It doesn't help when your team is not performing. I spoke to Hardik Pandya when I got over here and he seems like he is going fine. He's a really confident sort of person. He won't allow this to get to him but he does need to get this team winning games of cricket. Mumbai is such a good team and there are always high expectations. The fans want them at the top of the tree, but at the moment they are at the bottom," said Clarke.

Former England pacer Stuart Broad empathized with Hardik Pandya's experience of criticism and fan disapproval. However, Broad stressed the importance of Pandya focusing on his performance and not letting the negativity affect him. Ultimately, Broad believes winning is the key to calming the situation and allowing Pandya to flourish.

"As a player it doesn't bother you at all, to be honest. It's part and parcel of international and top-flight sport. You don't necessarily get that sort of environment and hostile feeling on your home ground. But I don't think the atmosphere can affect you as a proven performer. You still need to go out and deliver your skills. Ultimately, Mumbai Indians is a winning franchise. It has got a winning mentality, and they're not winning. That's the most difficult thing they're coping with at the moment. What they need to do is just get back on winning ways," he said.
