After a streak of failed performances in the recently concluded series against New Zealand at home, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are attacked from all sides as the fans' outrage has increased, and the screams of retirement are going viral on social media. Moreover, the former cricketers have criticized the players for their poor performance in Test cricket.
Kohli, the run machine, has scored around 190 runs in the last ten innings, while Rohit has amassed only 133 runs. Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif has been harsh on the players, urging them to play domestic cricket to get back in form.
Kaif said, "So whoever thinks that they are struggling to score runs and did not get enough game time, they should 100 per cent play in domestic cricket. Forget that you travel in big cars and flights and that you may not get VIP treatment there. If you want to find form, you need to put in that effort."
Their failure is one of the main reasons why India lost a Test series against New Zealand. The senior players failed to step up, and score runs in crunch situations, leading to a hole in the batting line-up. Young players like Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Sarfaraz Khan rose to the occasion and played some great knocks throughout the series, but the lack of support from others led to India's downfall.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 to start from November 22
India are set to travel to Australia to play the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 which starts on November 22 in Perth, Australia. The Board has announced the squad for the series. Rohit Sharma is set to lead the Indian attack but is likely to miss the first game.
While he hasn't confirmed it yet, he said he isn't sure whether he will play. This news caused many controversies since India needed to win the series to qualify for the WTC 2025 finals. If Rohit misses the first game, Jasprit Bumrah will be handed over the team's responsibility for one game.
