The back injury of the star pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the major concerns for India ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Indian camp is eagerly waiting to get the official fitness update on Jasprit Bumrah’s recovery just before the prestigious cricket quadrennial.
Meanwhile, a lot of former cricketers and experts have raised concerns about India’s ‘Champions Trophy’ hopes if Jasprit Bumrah fails to get fit to make it to the marquee international tournament.
In the same line of events, the former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad also joined the bandwagon; he shared his opinions and feelings while speaking about the impact of Jasprit Bumrah’s presence or absence for the Indian in a big tournament like the Champions Trophy.
“It shouldn’t matter whether someone is available or not” – Venkatesh Prasad
Prasad was in an exclusive conversation with Sports.info, in which he came up with some bold and blunt suggestions to Team India to deal with the situation if Jasprit Bumrah couldn’t make it to the squad of the Champions Trophy 2025.
“It shouldn’t matter whether someone is available or someone is not available, I think when you know that someone is not available, you need to shoulder the responsibility. It doesn’t matter, today, it could be Bumrah, tomorrow, it could be [Virat] Kohli or Rohit [Sharma], the remaining guys need to show responsibility,” said Venkatesh Prasad to Sports.info.
“You can't be dependent on any one particular player, so that is how you need to be going about it. you have to be strong mentally and you have to believe in yourself,” he added later.
Rohit Sharma-led Team India will start their journey in the ninth edition of the Champions Trophy with the campaign opener against Bangladesh on February 20, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. The men in blue will take on the arch-rivals Pakistan in the high-octane clash on February 23 in Dubai.
