Former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq's recent call for a global Indian Premier League (IPL) has ignited a fierce debate within the cricketing fraternity, stemming from the ongoing controversy concerning the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025.
The former Pakistan captain's comments on the cash-rich league showcase deep-seated frustration regarding the dominance of BCCI and its influence on international cricket. The core of Inzamam's argument revolves around the principle of reciprocity, as the IPL sets out to attract top players around the world while Indian cricketers are notably absent and not allowed to take part in any other leagues.

Inzamam-ul-Haq launches scathing attack on BCCI
In the same vein, the 54-year-old cricketer contended that this imbalance creates an unfair advantage for BCCI and other cricket boards, which should unite to assert their interests.
The issue of Champions Trophy scheduling, where Team India's games are played in Dubai, has heightened the feeling of unfairness. This has created a large tension between the two cricket boards and fans alike.
Notably, it seems that Inzamam's comments go beyond a simple call for action, as they represent a challenge to established power dynamics within cricket. This perspective showcases the growing tensions between the financial might of the IPL and the desire for a more balanced and equitable distribution of talent across the global landscape.
The fact that other cricket boards send their players to the IPL while the BCCI does not, allowing Indian players to compete in other leagues, is a major point of contention.
"Keep the Champions Trophy aside. You see the IPL; all the top players of the world play in the IPL, but the Indian players don't play in any league. Every board should stop sending their players to the IPL. If you [BCCI] are not releasing your players for any other league, then the other boards should also take a stance, right?" Inzamam-ul-Haq said on Pakistan TV Channel.
