BCCI announced the India A squad for the England tour, naming the star Bengal batter Abhimanyu Easwaran as skipper of the side. Apart from this, what caught the attention of the fans was the selection of the star Vidarbha batter Karun Nair, who has been out of Team India for the last eight years since he made his last Test appearance in the Dharamsala Test against Australia in 2017.

The selection in the India A squad has also increased the possibilities of Karun Nair getting selected in the squad of the senior men’s team for the five-match Test series against England.

In the same line of events, former India all-rounder and now commentator, Irfan Pathan, came up with a special post on X about Karun Nair’s comeback. In his post, Pathan mentioned the famous ‘dear cricket, give me one more chance’ tweet of the star batter, which he shared almost two and a half years back on December 10, 2022.

“Karun Nair getting selected for India A is clear indication that “Dear cricket will him give him another chance to play for team India again,” wrote Pathan in a recent post he shared from his official X handle (formerly Twitter).

Shreyas Iyer's omission from India A squad raises eyebrows

Apart from Karun Nair’s selection in the India A squad, what attracted eyeballs of the Indian cricket and the experts of the game was the omission of star in-form batter Shreyas Iyer. Notably, Iyer has been in a brilliant run of form over the last couple of months, but the BCCI’s decision to ignore him from the India A squad came as a shocking decision for the cricket fans and a lot of experts.

Everyone was expecting Iyer to be a new choice for the number four batting position in the Tests for India after the Test retirement of former skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli. But the board and selectors may have decided to go ahead with the potential skipper Shubman Gill to bat at number four, which seems from their decision to omit Iyer from the India A squad.
